many years ago when i saw this movie playing several times on turner's classic channel, i always didn't have the patience to watch it, thinking "oh great, another one of those 'classic' hollywood movies having caucasian playing asian, been ridiculously racists. toay my view's changed when i got the chance to learn a bit more about this movie. east meets west, the merging of two cultures for chinese american living in cali in the early 60's, i especially love how certain chinese tradition and american traditions are acted out without invoking any explanations, like it's the perfectly normal thing to do.
